Ethan's 7th Birthday Recap

Just for our records...
Ethi's 7th Birthday (a Saturday) at the beginning of this month was a lovely time for our family.
On the Friday night, the 4 older kids jetted off for a sleepover at Nan and Pop and Sulley's house since the next day was not only Ethi's birthday but also our 11th wedding anniversary.
Brett and I had a lovely Thai dinner together at home once Zeeki was in bed.
The next morning I got up and got the cakes ready but um they weren't so successful...

{the cakes burnt on the outside and were soggy inside!!!}

So Brett saved the day by getting some sponge cakes from coles that I could cut and make into the dump truck Ethan had requested...

For over 4 years, our kids did not have birthday cakes with lollies, colourings or preservatives of any kind. I made every single cake from scratch using vinegar, organic carob for flavouring and no toppings whatsoever because of the very strict diets they were on. Having come off the diets somewhat, we now feel comfortable allowing them to choose one special cake that I can try and make for them which may have some colour or candy on it. Since they don't have those things at any other time really (we are still almost 100% nasty-chemical free) we think bending the rules for one day is ok and they REALLY look forward to enjoying their cake!!!

So here's Ethi with his dump truck cake...

There was left over icing which I'd popped into a bag and Stass had a turn at piping rosettes...

{Stass piped Ethi's initials on this mini cake}

For his birthday, Ethi got a Lego policestation set and the Cars2 Big Ben Lego too...

Here he is beginning to assemble it on his birthday afternoon...

Sulley (Brett's sis) bought over her slushie maker. All you need for this is ice, rock salt and a soft drink. We choose to use Schweppe's Lemonade which does not contain the benzoate 211. I often wonder if Schweppe's can go without putting 211 in lemonade, how come the other manufacturer's can't? Anyways, again, our kiddos don't drink soft drink at all, so a little as a treat on a birthday without the nasty 211 is a good compromise for us all!

Other shots from the day...

Opening and reading his cards...

...and celebrating a lovely lunch together with Nan and Pop and Sull...
I have SO much more I want to share here but I'll just do it as I find time!
More to come,

hey lusi!

you should try out a sodastream! we have one and the kids love it. our kids drink sodawater plain, so thats just plain water in the sodastream. or you can put flavourings in with adding fresh lemon etc. my kids like it even when i just add juice sometimes.

have a great day tomorrow :)

Hi Karen!
So nice to *see* you again mate. How's life your way? Thanks for the Soda Stream tip; great idea about natural flavourings. Unfortunately we cant have lemon at the moment (its a high salicylate) but will remember about the soda stream down the track when they tolerate natural flavours like that again.
Hope all is well your way my friend!
Love Lus x

hi! yeah all is good. we are expecting baby #4 .... so thats another precious gift from God. not smooth sailing this time around, and unfortunately while I normally have natural drugfree labours, this time I must have a caesarian. but im ok with it. my only concerns are healthy baby and healthy mum :)

I see youve bought a renovator!!! FUN!!! we are working on our third renovator at the moment. you will learn ALOT with your first one. just remember to SMILE through the process, and keep in mind that Rome wasnt built in a day! :) it is so rewarding.

Take care, and God bless!

xxx Karen

Karen! Congrats on your 4th blessing coming- how very precious mate! So sorry to hear things haven't been smooth this time round; aren't we blessed though to be in a country where there are safe options for birthing women?! Praying it all goes ahead smoothly for you. Please let me know how it goes! Youre on your 3rd renovation? How cool! We are so super excited!
Anyway, many blessings and much love to you x
