Happy 11th Anniversary Honey

On Ethan's birthday (saturday) it was also our 11th wedding anniverary!
Brett's sis and parents kindly offered to take the 4 older kiddos for a sleepover for us so that we could have a special time together (with Zeeki of course!)
That was such a lovely treat!
So on Friday night, we dropped the kids off and went to our fave Thai spot and got some take out.
We put Zeeki to bed and then sat down and enjoyed some special time together.

The next day the kiddos headed back over and we all enjoyed a lovely celebratory bbq for Ethi's lunch.
Before they came back though, while I was cooking (and burning!) Ethan's cake, Brett and I enjoyed reflecting on and talking about the past 12.5 years we've been together.
We recalled memorable moments, challenging times and special experiences that have bonded us as a couple and as a family in a way that we could never have expected.
We laughed and cried as we rememberd and gave thanks to Yah for His love and provision to us.

This morning I was listening to a programme that was talking about the increase in divorce rates in those who had been married for 25 years and then as the nest empties, realise that they are no longer 'in love' and go their separate ways. One of the reasons the 'expert' wanted to talk about this was because she said if you can encourage people to invest NOW in their relationships, it might help them to not drift apart down the track.
One thing I love about my relationship with Brett is that (although it's not perfect!) we still love to laugh together. We make a real effort to spend time together and not just live parralel lives. Sometimes the only time we can manage together is when the kiddos are all in bed and we settle down for a special night on the couch watching a movie or chatting or playing cards. We talk about our hopes for the future and pray together for our family and about the everyday situations we find ourselves in. Sometimes I just talk about how overwhelming I'm finding the kids' behaviour, or Brett will talk about a work (or lack thereof!) situation. The point is, that we share it together. We used to try and solve each other's problems but we've learnt that often it's better just to listen to each other. Sometimes when I'm out, I'll pick up a special treat that Brett loves to eat or he'll tell me to go and have a bath on my own and will bring me a platter of cheese, olives and crackers. Sometimes it's as simple as the two of us holding off to eat our dinner until the kids have eaten and are in bed and then we sit down, light some candles and just eat dinner together. That doesn't happen often because we LOVE sitting together as a family. But every now and then, it's just what we need.

All these measures are things that we are doing now to invest in our relationship for the future.
My life is richer for knowing and loving you Brett.

I love you mate with all my heart.
Happy 11th Anniversary.
Here's to many, many more!

Our 10th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

We were blessed to get to go away for a night together and to spend the next day out together too. We didn't go far since we wanted to be able to come home and help settle children if we needed to (especially Zippi) but mum and dad were here looking after them. We waited to leave until Zippi was in bed and asleep.

We stayed at a most beautiful spot only 5 mins from home! We spent the next day out going from cafe to cafe pretty much talking Torah and sharing our hearts. It was fantastic and one we won't be forgetting in a hurry that's for sure!

10 Years Ago (and Ethan's birthday!!!)...

We entered into a covenant together.
A covenant of marriage and devotion before God and our family and friends.
I just cannot believe that day was ten years ago.

We have been through so many things in that time; good and bad.
We've been blessed with four incredible pregnancies, births and babies.
We've buried grandparents.
We've moved house 7 times.
We've endured financial hardship + incredible seasons of blessing and prosperity.
We've seen friends come + some go too.
We've travelled overseas to two countries together.
We've fought alot.
We've made up more times than we've fought.

We've gone through me having an auto-immune bleeding disorder, having the stress of not knowing how badly it would affect me, being told i might not wake up in the morning, gone though splenectomy surgery and endured so many hospital visits- all with you being my tower of strength and comfort.
We've thought we might go our own way once or twice but came through all those trials only by the grace of God, the love of family + friends and a determination to make our vows last forever.
We've gone through the rocky road of having one of our precious children being diagnosed with Autism and all the challenges and joys that has brought us along the way.
We've laughed so hard together.
And cried just as much too.

We've homeschooled together.
We've both thought we were the worst parents in the world at times.
We've marvelled at how He has brought us through so many hairy times.
We've celebrated and cooked and feasted together.
We've shared it all.
We've held hands on the lounge and cried out to God to hear our prayers.
We've thanked Him and marvelled at His mighty works in our lives.
I'll never forget how supportive you were at every birth. You rubbed my back and always encouraged me and told me how well I was doing.
You've always eaten my food - even when it really was bad and needed some tweaking...alot of tweaking!
You've never made a bad comment if I've been overweight because you've always said you love me for who I am not what I look like. And you've really meant it.
You've loved my family and my friends.
You've let me have times to myself so I can hear from Yehovah (God) and always encouraged me to put my relationship with Him first - no matter how hard the walk ahead.
You continue to lead me and cover me in a beautiful way. Your prayers mean so much to me and always touch my spirit.
And despite all the ups and downs, here we are 10 years on in our marriage journey.
I love you my darling, my best friend.
Thank you for 10 of the most amazing years of my life, my love.
I am so thankful our wonderful Abba (father) brought us together and pray that if it's His will, we get to celebrate many, many more happy years together.
___________

And one of the beautiful products of our marriage is our littlest man Ethan who turns 6 today too!
Happy birthday beautiful boy!
May you grow to know how loved you are by all of us and by your awesome Maker.
May the love of Yahshua (Jesus) be yours every day of your life and may the Truth of His Life and His Word set you heart alight with passion for Him!
We are so thankful for you and love you so much mate!

More another time,

Happy Anniversary Baby...

Happy anniversary to my best friend, my mate, my helper + defender, my protector and lover, my confidante and prayer partner.
Love you so much + so thankful to the Lord for you.
9 years full of amazing + challenging, loving + despairing moments.
We've been through so much together + it is as true today as when i sang it to you 9 years ago.... a strand of three cords can't be broken easily.
You + Me + God = US.
Love you x

GET REAL BABY 16.02.09

ETA: If you are playing along this week and you don't mind me linking to you, then please leave a comment on this post right here :) Ta!

Acutally before I post my Get Real Baby Stuff for this week, I wanted to give 2 quick shout-outs of love: HAPPY 7TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY to my darling Anthea and her Andrew :) Sending our love to you both and fondly remembering your wonderful day 7 years ago! And also a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our friend Noely Kanoly :) Hope your day was spesh mate! Love to Noel Sum and to you and the girls of course too!!!

I'm so stoked to see so many people joining in this challenge. I just want to give the friendly and loving reminder that its not about getting people down, or defeated or negative; it's just simply about being REAL. I'm just going to repaste something i wrote about last week concerning this whole exercise...

It is about being humble, its about just taking down the walls and connecting with others rather than alienating each other in a false sense of always-having-it-together. I hope that makes sense :) And feel free to add 5 things you are thankful for at the end of it too to kind of balance it out :)

If you have no idea about what I'm talking about then maybe you might want to read my original post from last week which you can get to: HERE. And remember, you can always finish off with posting 5 things you are thankful to God for right now too :)
So here are some REAL things about my life right now:
REALLY:

* REALLY, I can not BELIEVE we finally got the dreaded walk in robe cleaned out. It was putrid. It still has a ways to go but it is so much better than it was and I can't believe how happy it has made me that is has finally some sense of order to it.

* REALLY, I was way too grumpy at the boys today despite one of them biting the other and the other child apparently kicking the biter in the stomach.....what is with that? Shamefully, though i yelled too much. And when they wake up from their nap, I REALLY need to apologise.

* REALLY, I stopped drinking decaf coffee a while ago and then had two this week and they have made me feel like rubbish.

* REALLY, I love reading that I am not alone in the plight to want to be real before God; warts and all, to let the masquerade be torn down, to stand before Him knowing that there is nothing I can hide from Him anyway. And just by pretending that I can hide it from others (even when I'm not conciously doing that) doesn't mean He doesn't see me for who I am. And yet He loves me and shapes me and transforms me....He is truly amazing. REALLY.

* REALLY, I ate way too much junk this week for a pregnant woman; like 6 mini hot cross buns and a block of chocolate over 3 days. That is so wrong on so many levels. I REALLY want to be more self disciplined with that. I REALLY should be. I REALLY NEED to be.

* REALLY, I want to do the whole cloth nappy MCN thing but still don't know if i can REALLY be bothered and if it is worth the effort. I'm sure many of my readers can tell me it is (and i know it is) but whether or not I take the plunge is another issue. Hmmm...

* REALY, I would love to not have to do the low salicylate diet thing so I can serve up big bowlfuls of spaghetti bolognese, cook yummy cheesy lasagnes and just have a garden salad to serve up with cucumber, tomato and salad dressing all over it. I know the benefits outweigh the lack of tomatoes and other foods but I REALLY would love to smell those things cooking in my house again.

10 things I am thankful for today:
1. Sharon coming by today to encourage me and pray with me :) Was so lovely!
2. Fun stuff to do indoors during rainy days
3. "My" pregnancy/labour verse: Jeremiah 32:27 "I am the Lord God of all mankind. Is there anything too difficult for me?" NO! Nothing is too difficult for you Lord!
4. Brett's RDO's :)
5. Clothes horses for drying clothes on said rainy days :)
6. God's beautiful forgiveness when I muck it all up
7. Stassi learning to tell the time with such enthusiasm!
8. Liji drawing a beautiful depiction of Mr McGregor's Veggie garden after reading 'The Tale of Benjamin Bunny'
9. Snuggles
10. French toast as a low salicylate/dairy free option for liji when everyone else is having toasted cheese sandwhiches.
Love and blessings,
Lus x

12.12.08

Today is an anniversary for a dear beloved friend of ours. She has given me permission to post about her here because she knows that what God has done in her life is marvellous, miraculous and needs to be told! All glory to God!!!

Last April, I had the joy of meeting a woman in our area who has helped to change the way I think about life, God and evangelism (sharing the Good News about God).
She was a mother of one of the children who was attending a drop-in-centre that we had been reaching out to as a ministry of the church. We had shared the Gospel with her daughter but had had little contact with her other family members. We knew that one sister was a believer but that was it. One day, I took the daughter out for a milkshake to talk about some things on her mind and stopped to talk with the mum as I picked her up. I noticed that she wanted to talk. She didn't try and shift discussion. And wouldn't you know it? Everytime i went up the street to buy something, she was ALWAYS there too and I would offer her a lift home and we would talk about what was happening in her life. I always shared how God was moving in ours when there was an opening and i was always praying for her whilst we were together, after I dropped her off and just in my quiet prayer times.

After a long series of interactions and much crying out to God, she came to church on one of my invites. She was shocked that the "roof didn't fall in". After we left church, I invited her home but she said she needed to be alone. She went home and started doing business with God.
She asked Him all sorts of questions that afternoon and I spent about 3 hours with her in our car talking some of the issues she had with God and the church out. We cried together, prayed together and waited in silence before God together. I have never met anyone like her. Never known God. Abused beyond belief. Broken beyond repair it would have seemed. Well at least it seemed that way to her.

She and her family practically came and lived with us for the next few months as she came to understand that she was a sinner, that she needed to confess (tell) her sins to God, repent of those (walk in the opposite direction) and then recieve by faith the sacrifice that God made for her through Jesus' death and resurrection. She began to understand that she was worth something to the most important person in the world - Jesus. She recognised that He had paid the price for her rebellion against God. She began to see that the life she had been living all these years was not really what God had planned for her. She knew that she no longer wanted to live away from God.

We never promised her it would be easy because let's face it, the walk of a Christian is not. In Phillipans chapter 3 verses 10 & 11, Paul says, "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead". I too want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and yet sharing in His sufferings is not something shared with many newborn Christians. It was preached in our church not long ago and it really challenged me because it is so true - God never says, "come to me and I'll make everything smooth sailing from here on in!" or "come and I'll take you on an easy ride from this moment forth".

No.

He says this in Luke 6 verses 47- 49: "I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." When the storms come, our foundation is Rock - THE ROCK - Jesus and we are able to still stand not because of ourselves but because of who He is. He is the foundation.

At our breakfast bar one Friday night mid last year, this beautiful woman confessed her sin to God, repented and became born again as a new person. The Bible tells us that God is, 'faithful and just to forgive us our sins and CLEANSE us from ALL unrighteousness'. She walked in it. She studied the Words of God in the Bible, she started praying and sharing her life with the One who gave it to her in the first place. She began to understand that she was created uniquely; that she was not a mistake. She realised that there was nothing she could hide from God and often debated heavily with Him outloud even whilst walking down the streets of our area! She caused such a stirring because people around her could see she had changed. Some things took a while and as she (and I) would say, 'we are a work in progress!' When she sinned, she knew it had grieved God and she would seek to be at peace again with God. He slowly and lovingly revealed areas in her life that He wanted to touch and change. She was and is 'working out her salvation with fear and trembling'. She would sit in my kitchen for hours and we would read and discuss scriptures together. She began praying for and with her children and all of them are now seeking to know more about the wonderful Lord that has changed their mum's life. She had a major part of her hearing restored as an absolute miracle since she had been specifically praying about that.
With our pastor's (and Brett's) blessings, I baptised her late last year during a celebration service in our church! It was an honour to do so to see how the Lord had brought her from being at a place where she had been at enmity with God to where she was now His princess; daughter of the Most High. And she knew it. And she is not afraid to lovingly and boldly share with others about what He has done in her life.

Others around her still struggled to come to terms with it and in the last 12 months she has had her house shot at, had her drinks spiked (and realised it before drinking it!), been perecuted verbally like you would not believe and even had her closest of friends disown her all because she has wanted to know Jesus and keep her love for God as her first!

Another couple in our church have been lovingly guiding her through prayer ministry and she is a new woman; completely different from the one we met a year and a half ago.
She has and continues to be inspirational to us.

When we met her, she was an alcoholic.
Today is the FIRST YEAR ANNIVERSARY since she decided not to get drunk ever again. She made that decision in obedience to what God was prompting her to do and she has honoured that over the last year.
I am so proud of her and continually stand in awe of the miracles God has done in her life.

Glory to God for being the One who transforms hearts and lives, who came as a doctor to fix up the sick, to bind the broken hearted and to set the captives free!

If you ever wondered if God is alive and working in this day and age, the answer is YES! Looking at the life of my friend tells you that :) She had tried for so many years to get whole and the only way she has found it was in giving up everything to Jesus and allowing Him to take and mould her life into something very beautiful for His glory.

3.12.08

It's our 8th wedding anniversary today!
Happy anniversary honey :)
On our way home from Kiama we took a detour past the church where we had our photos taken and got the kids out and took some photos with them too. We haven't been there in 8 years so it was a special time for us.
Who would have thought 8 years ago when we stood in front of that gorgeous sandstone church that we would have (almost!) 4 children, been through some very shaky times in our marriage, in our personal lives and in the life of our family? We didn't know at that time what ITP (the autoimmune blood disease i later got) was, nor what autism meant. I had not yet finished my uni degree, we had no idea what it would be like to live together as man and wife nor had we experienced the joy and miracle of parenthood.
So much has happened and the Lord has been there through it all for us!
Honey, you are the one that I am so blessed to get to see the morning begin with, you make me smile and crack up laughing when i am feeling down in the dumps, you pray for me when I need divine help, you hold my hair back when i vomit and rub my back. You tell me you love me, you show me you love me in countless ways and I love having you as my best friend.
Through all of it mate, you are there by my side holding my hand and reassuring me that the Lord will always be here with us to.
"A strand of three cords is not easily broken" Ecclesiastes 4:12
Me, You and God.
Love you Brett with everything I am.
